Interview with Dan
Overview
Sam says Dan is one of his most favorite people, Sam says he’s known him since 2022, and Sam and pretty much everyone in my hobby group, which is over 1000 people, know him. His Name Is Dan Kosmakiki (He is not Hawaiian), is by one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met and He loves to make friends. Sam says he is single and hangs out with his ex-girlfriend quite often, especially after his dog and dad died from old age. Sam says he said he met him in person for the first time on December 27th 2025, Sam also says his friends (who also have known him for a while), also like him. Dan came over and I love his humor. He is mature when it comes to his personal actions, but when it comes to swearing & talking humorously, no. Sam Says the reason Dan’s so nice is because of him being raised really properly and having a ton of empathy as well as having autism in him. Sam says Dan, Seth, Dylan, along with Barry worked on the Whelen controller, with Dan helping the most, since he brought him to compare it. Sam says they worked on it for about 2 hours before coming in due to the cold, where they later decided to talk about our interests. (interviewer): We were told they later got it fixed by 5:30PM–6:00PM.

When Dan arrived, we decided on what to talk about, since we wanted to have a structured conversation. Dan came onto the couch, with Sam, Dylan, and Seth. They decided to talk about Dan’s opinions on other siren enthusiasts, and why we call ourselves a slur.
Dan asked, “Sam, you know Will?”
I said “Yes.”
Dan expresses, “I honestly think that he’s kind of *******”
“I said “Why?”
Dan said “He literally attacked Danielle when in the middle of a drive to Livonia MI”
I said “why did he do that?”
Dylan replied, “You know Will is heavily prone to anger outbursts, you know his dad is a cop right? His mom never really gave care or attention to him, he’s also unmedicated. He also never received any consequences from his dad either, despite him being a cop.”
NOTE: I know the R-word is usually considered a slur, but me and my friends call each other and ourselves most often.
Sam says he and his other friends all have Autism and ADHD. Dan had a long talk with my mom saying his Golden Retriever, Molly, sadly was put down to old age. Sam’s mom said Dan cried and cried and cried. Dan also said he was picked on as a kid due to him preferring to be alone. Sam did not add any quotes about his dog because Sam, Seth and Dylan were watching videos on the TV while Dan talked about his life and the death of his beloved rescued golden retriever, that he had since she was a puppy. Sam said they don’t want Dan to be upset with him.
Sam says About 50 to around 80 minutes later, he & Dan decided to talk about sirens and governments that don’t do their research, so basically why Hawaii replaced their more diverse and longer-lasting siren system with modulator sirens.
Sam said, “What’s your opinion on Hawaii EMA replacing their sirens with Modulators?”
Dan said “Well, if that is what they wanna do then they can, but it really is sad and they really should refurbish them.”
Sam said “Sort of, they shouldn’t replace them. It’s a waste of money and the new sirens are often less powerful, more maintenance heavy (as they get older), are quieter, and Hawaii should actually just replace the speaker drivers instead of replacing the whole damn thing and putting the siren in a dumpster or leaving it in a yard.”
Sam said he still has yet to find the other siren junkyard in Hawaii. He says they have 2 of them and he has only found one. He says If they just throw out the old sirens and don’t refurbish them, sell them, or do anything like that, a lawsuit should follow by various appliance enthusiasts if they just throw them into the trash.
